About the Pastor
Our pastor's spiritual journey toward Christ occurred over time and was a timely encounter.
Raised in a small town as a child in Texas, Greater Life Heritage's pastor, Roy Shelton, in his beginning and during his formative years, knew nothing about repentance, the infilling of the Holy Ghost, and water baptism in Jesus' name. Growing up, his parents never fully taught him about the Word of God. He experienced a normal childhood as any other child. After graduating from high school, he went to a small college, and after attending college for a short term, enlisted in the US Army. Military life was demanding and life changing. As a US Army soldier, he went through basic training and was later stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia. While in Georgia, he began his spiritual journey and met up with a couple who encouraged him to pray and ask God to lead him to a church where God’s Spirit and Truth dwelt. Soon after his encounter with this couple, he was transferred by the military to Fort Carson, Colorado. Two weeks after arriving at Fort Carson, he quickly absorbed true apostolic preaching and was soon baptized in the name of Jesus. From that night on things began to change in his life. One night, just a few weeks after being baptized in Jesus’ name, while praying at the church, hours after church members were dismissed, he was filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke in other tongues as the Spirit gave him the utterance (just as those in the first church). This was his humble beginning with God. Though repentance preceded his Holy Ghost experience, he continued to live a repented life each day. Our pastor quickly became God’s disciple, without hesitancy. As each day went by, he developed strong, God-like convictions and developed a burden for souls. Acting under his burden, he led fellow Army soldiers and other non-believers to church, some of which became born again. Concurrent to these church activities, he attended an extension Bible college program. In 1994, GLHAC's pastor received a call from God to preach the Gospel. In 2007, he began evangelizing throughout the United States with his wife and two children. During that time of evangelizing, he witnessed how God filled many souls with the Holy Ghost, saw the Lord positively affect the lives of men, women, children, and young people; and witnessed the divine work that the Lord was doing all around him. After spending several years evangelizing, he felt the call to begin a church work in Aurora, Colorado. He is not a stranger to Aurora, Colorado. This fact is so, simply because he conducted his very first revival in Aurora, CO in 2007. |
